Doctrine: Best of Jump is official, Buenos, pianos, Hedwig, site redesign

It’s official: the Best of Jump video will be in the next JUMP show, at the Silverbow the 24th and 30th. We showed it to the JUMP guys today and they dug it. Arlo and I were a little worried that they’d think the parody was too offensive, but they thought it was great. So now we’ll have three vids in the show: the non-official-vidclub Best of Jump, Joe’s Ex-GFs video, and Amelia’s “Once Upon a Time on a Dark and Stormy Night.” A strong showing overall! And what I’ve heard about some of the other videos is promising as well. So, GO!
Last night I worked some more on Buenos Aires. I added in a drum loop that really made the song drive. I worry that it’s a little TOO fast, but I think overall it works. I just need to add the loop hits to my drum map so the drums are consistent. I lowered the key a step to better accommodate my voice, and I’m likely going to use octave vocals through most of the song.
I also recorded some piano tracks for a couple of the piano/vocal songs (”River Summer” and “Amy”), but am a little frustrated by my digital piano sound. It’s great live, but sounds a little, well, digital when it’s recorded directly. I’ll try running it through speakers and micing it, but I’m coming to the conclusion it’d be better to use my little spinet than go digital. But as you can hear in “Sincerity Machine,” it’s a tad out-of-tune, and the piano tuner in town that I use is unavailable until after the summer (he tunes the cruise ships’ pianos, of which there are five in port today!). The point is I need to find a good piano and the time to record on it.
Perseverance Theater is staging “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” in their upcoming season, and my fellow singer/songwriter/piano-player/Juneauite Rory Merritt Stitt is playing the titular role (which, in my opinion, he was born to play). I’m so excited for it, and I’ve even left some messages about casting. I’d so dearly love to be in the Angry Inch (Skszp!). I’m not getting my hopes up (I can’t play guitar), but it’d be so damned fun.
And finally I’m still working on redesigning my site. Of possible interest is the new downloads page, where I’ve posted my Song Fight! songs with descriptions.

Great entries this time around, it was nice to see Russ and Rob again. Sarah just about died laughing at the parody of her film. I think this turned out as one of our best shows so far. What’s next?
